SHTF or TEOTWAWKI – Sh!t Hit the Fan/The End of the World As We Know It, when all he!! Breaks loose and you are in the middle of a disaster


BOB – Bug Out Bag, Your full gear to evacuate with including your EDC and GHB. This bag is for survival outside. EGB - Emergency Go Bag, this bag will have everything you need in it to relocate to your stocked BOL, another home, hotel/motel, or help center.


Bug In – Staying where you are with your supplies


BOL – Bug out Location, your pre-planned place to go when you have to evacuate. Give yourself options, have more than one available.


Bug Out – Evacuate


BOV – Bug Out Vehicle


Cache (or Stash) - supplies and gear that you have stored at a safe location or at your BOL


EDC – Every Day Carry, your everyday essentials bag, it is always with you. The base essentials of your BOB


ELE – Extinction Level Event, if someone yells this one it is time to Bug In and buckle down for a wild ride. Preppers have a better chance at survival than most people.


EMP – Electromagnetic Pulse, can take out all electronics and most vehicles in a single pulse without warning and is likely to take out all communications and the country's infrastructure causing collapse.


Faraday Cage – a metal casing designed to protect your electronics from EMP


FIFO – First In First Out, this has to do with your food storage. Anything new should go behind the older food so that you use the older food first.


GHB – Get Home Bag, your EDC plus extra gear to get you home when you cannot drive there, part of your BOB


Grid Down – the power is out


IFAK/PFAK – Individual/Personal First Aid Kit


INCH – I'm not coming home, written in plain sight for family members


JIC – Just In Case


MAG – Mutual Aid Group, a group of people that have come together in support of each other to plan and in crisis


MRE – Meal Ready to Eat, calorie-dense, light-weight, sealed meals that you can usually pick up from a military surplus


Off-grid – Usually a super prepper who has chosen to live disconnected from the power grid who is mostly or completely self-sufficient.


OPSEC – Operational Security, it is best to keep your plans to yourself, family members, and possibly MAG. This can also have to do with keeping you safe in crisis.


Prepper – A person who prepares for emergencies


Rule of 3 – 3 minutes without air, 3 hours in dangerous conditions without shelter, 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food. Use this rule to decide on what needs to handle first.


YOYO – You’re On Your Own, hopefully you never experience this one. Always have a backup plan.


72 Hour Kit – a kit you put together, or you buy premade to get you through 3 days of survival.
